Made in America

Verellen & Lee Industries, out of High Point

Verellen is our primary upholstery line, made in High Point, North Carolina, and it’s where most of our custom sofa and chair orders start — along with Lee Industries upholstery, which we use extensively.

Because both are made domestically, we can work directly with the manufacturer on fabric, sizing, and finish rather than choosing from whatever happens to be sitting in a warehouse. Fewer supply chain surprises, and a manufacturer we can reach directly if something needs adjusting.

We sell vendors we can stand behind, because they stand behind us. If something isn’t holding up the way it should, we go back to the manufacturer on your behalf. That’s a different relationship than buying furniture online and hoping it holds together once it arrives.

What We Build

01

Custom Upholstery Through Verellen and Lee Industries

Verellen is a made-in-America upholstery line out of High Point, North Carolina, and it’s where most of our custom sofa and chair orders start, along with Lee Industries upholstery. Because it’s made domestically, we can work directly with the manufacturer on fabric, sizing, and finish rather than choosing from whatever happens to be sitting in a warehouse.

02

Custom Built-In Furniture

Built-ins are designed to fit a specific space exactly, whether that’s a media wall, a window seat, or storage built around an awkward architectural feature that a stock piece would never solve. We design and source these as part of a larger room, not as an afterthought.

03

Custom Home Office Furniture

A home office desk and storage should be built around how you actually work, not around whatever configuration happened to fit in a delivery truck. We take the same custom approach to a home office that we do to a living room, matching the piece to the space and the person using it.

04

One-of-a-Kind Pieces

Beyond upholstery, we build genuinely one-of-a-kind furniture on request: a specific fabric on a piece that normally ships in only a handful of options, or a custom size that a manufacturer’s standard run doesn’t offer.

Custom Pieces We've Built

Custom vs. Stock

A stock sofa fits a stock room

A stock piece is built to fit an average room and an average buyer. That works fine until your space isn’t average — a wall that’s shorter than expected, a sectional that needs to wrap a corner a specific way, or a fabric that simply doesn’t exist in a showroom lineup. Custom furniture solves the problem a stock piece can’t.

It’s also why we don’t treat custom orders as an upsell. If a stock piece genuinely fits what you need, we’ll tell you that. Custom makes sense when it solves an actual problem, or when it’s simply what pleases the homeowner — not because it’s the more expensive option.

This is why custom work has an honest place in a full-service design project. A designer who knows your space can tell you exactly where a stock piece will fall short, before you’ve spent money finding out the hard way.

Our Process

From first conversation to placement in the room

Custom orders start with a conversation about what you actually need: the room it’s going in, the fabric you’re picturing, the dimensions that matter. From there, we work with the manufacturer directly on specifications before anything gets built, so there are no surprises once the piece arrives.

Because every custom piece is different, timelines vary. A fabric swap on an existing frame moves faster than a fully custom size or a rare finish. Our team will give you a realistic estimate once we know the scope of what you’re ordering.

Once specifications are confirmed, your order moves into production. We’ll keep you updated on timing along the way, and when the piece arrives, we handle delivery and placement so the process feels finished, not just fulfilled — though some clients also pick up and take home for instant gratification.

A well-made custom piece is an investment, and it holds up best with the right care. Our team walks you through fabric-specific maintenance at the time of purchase.

One-of-a-kind by design

Some of our custom pieces have only ever existed for one client. A specific fabric applied to a piece that normally comes in a handful of standard options, built to one person’s exact specification, isn’t something you’ll find anywhere else because it was never meant to be. That’s the nature of true custom work: once it’s built for you, it’s yours.

Custom orders don’t have to stand alone, either. If you’re working with one of our designers on a room refresh or a full home, a custom piece can be built into that same project instead of handled as a separate purchase — see our interior design services for more on how design and custom furniture work together.

You can also see and feel our vendor lines in person before you order. Visit our boutique to see what’s currently in the showroom, or visit the Design Studio Annex for the full range of upholstery and case goods, all 8,000 square feet of it. See our featured brands for the other vendor lines we carry.

No. Custom furniture orders can stand on their own, or they can be part of a larger design project if you’re already working with one of our designers.

Custom work generally costs a touch more than a comparable stock piece, since it involves manufacturer-specific fabric and sizing rather than an off-the-shelf run. Our team will walk you through the specifics for your piece before you commit.

We handle delivery and placement as part of the order, so the process is finished when the piece arrives in your home, not just shipped to your door. Some clients also pick up and take home for instant gratification.
